The College is set in a quiet garden enclave adjacent to the school grounds and provides a safe and secure environment in the leafy, northern suburb of Ascot.
Access to the College is available through a card security system, ensuring only residents and staff can enter the building. An intercom system facilitates approved access for visitors, special guests and other non-residential persons requiring access.
After hours security teams regularly patrol the campus and lock up each evening. External security lights have also been installed on the college buildings.
The Director of Boarding at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School and boarding staff are also in the immediate area in the event of a serious issue or emergency. The Senior Residential Assistant also lives onsite at the College.
Entrance to the college grounds is via the St Margaret’s Lapraik Street gates, Ascot. The physical address of the College is 34 Lapraik Street, Ascot QUEENSLAND 4007. There are two residential wings within the College with St Raphael (known as ‘Raphael’) on the eastern side and Clewer on the western side. Entrance is via the central foyer area near Community House and the car park.
Raphael wing includes the seven double bedrooms, main kitchen, The Oratory, student lounge and flexible learning studio. Clewer has 18 rooms in total with nine rooms on each level (ground and level one). This includes five with deluxe garden view rooms and four with deluxe city view rooms on each level. At the end of each level are baggage storage, shared bathrooms and kitchenettes. Beyond the foyer at the entrance level is the College Director’s office and tutorial room.
Students can socialise in the spacious student lounge or take advantage of the beautiful Queensland weather and relax in the outdoor barbecue area.
Residents have access to the School’s library, chapel, labyrinth, swimming pool, gymnasium and tennis courts during specified times.
The student lounge is a comfortable area for students to rest and relax and enjoy the city views. The lounge area contains a large flat screen TV, with Foxtel available. Students are also able to eat their meal at the dining table in the room.
During the winter months, the student lounge is a great place to cosy up with a book by the wood fired heater.
The Flexible Learning Studio is a multipurpose room which provides a collaborative learning space for students to engage in peer learning and study. A flat screen TV is available for students to use and share learning material. The room can also be used as an alternative TV room on weekends.
The tutorial room provides a space for study groups and student tutoring. The rooms can also be accessed for meetings, provided a tutorial is not scheduled at that time. Students can also access a multi-function device for printing, scanning and copying needs, on a user pays basis.
The Oratory is a multipurpose room used for the Student Success Program, workshops and formal dinners. Residents may use The Oratory for approved purposes.
The outdoor BBQ and under cover recreation area can be used by students. It is requested that the BBQ be cleaned after each use.
Table tennis and bocce equipment is available for use. Games equipment can be found in the laundry and it is requested that students return the equipment to the laundry after use.
The Sisters’ Chapel is available for private prayer and informal service of worship or a Christian study group. Available times will be posted on the community noticeboard.
The garden labyrinth is available for private prayer and reflection.
Washing machines and dryers are provided at no additional cost to students. You will need to supply your own washing detergent. A clothes line is available for natural drying. Clothes racks are not permitted in room or balconies due to fire and health and safety requirements.
Limited car parking is available each semester to St Margaret’s College residents. Allocation will be based on a “first in best dressed” principle. Persons who hold a current blue Queensland Council approved disability permit will be given priority parking. Consideration will be given to residents who play representative sport, have employment commitments for which a motor vehicle is required and those who missed out on a car parking space the previous semester. If you require a car space during the semester and have not requested one, you must seek permission first before bringing your vehicle to college. Failure to do so will result in you being asked to return your vehicle to your home.
There is an upfront car parking fee of $350 per semester. Residents who wish to secure a car parking space for the following semester will need to apply again. To download the car park request form click here.
The College provides disability access through the ramp at the front entrance to the College. The rooms and bathrooms in Raphael provide disability access.
Linen is provided by the College and is laundered weekly which is made up of 2 bed sheets and 1 pillow case. Students provide their own pillow, doonas, blankets, and bath towels.
Residents at St Margaret’s College have access to St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School facilities during specified times.
College residents may access the Eunice Science and Resource Centre during specified times.
Arrangements may be made for personal use of the St Margaret’s School music facilities by contacting the College Director. No guarantee is given due to the high demand and utilisation of space in the music department.
College residents can access the sporting facilities of the school during specified times (students are NOT to use the gymnastics equipment in the Philip Harris Sports Centre).
The Windsor Park grounds can be accessed by college residents for training purposes.
The St Margaret’s Health Centre is staffed by Registered Nurses and is available to college residents seven days a week.
